Murder weapons of delhi back on the road
The Delhi govt has bowed to the blueline operators again. These are the same buses involved in rash drivings, tripping over and killing people and school kids. After the outcry over several cases in a row, the delhi police started enforcing law in proper way. The next thing you know is that all the blueline buses are on strike.
This is the respect of law in this country. The moment you try to force the law, we will hijack the basic services and disrupt the life of common public and force you to forget all the law and order. We will never tolerate the enforcement of law against us whatever happens. You can't make us follow these stupid laws of drivers license and vehicle insurance. Surprisingly, many people happily put life of their kids in hands of these law breaking drivers.

The horrifying part is that govt give in to this blatant unlawfulness!! How can you accept opposition of law enforcement itself.
dude privatization of public transport is the oly solution..
tell me one thing when all taxi, autos and trucks are private... people do not make a hue and cry over it... then why single busses...
if somebody breaks the law... catch him and punish him... how tough is it? esp if the driving violation is done in open public?
privatization is best solution but when was the last time when our politicians took the best decision for their voters. The bus operators provide support to politicians and then the union forms a good vote bank for them ... who is going to upset the vote bank in this politics.
Dude its not easy to punish the law breakers in India. That is what the policemen were doing when the blueline operators went on strike and the govt gave in and stopped the enforcement of traffic rules!!

I doubt if private oprs can match the fare charged by govt. run buses in Chennai.
@Sree: what do you think about competition driven free market and value added service?? allow private players in market and there will be fierce competition. then you will see the value added service. i wont mind shelling 1-2 rs extra for well cushioned ac bus.

I am sure private operators wld give better service and a more comfortable vehicle.

It can also operate independently for the affordable class.
Monthly passes and kids passes can be provided by the private players too. Govt can make the private players play according to its need, as it has been doing in various different privatized sectors.
I was really shocked to hear about all those accidents in quick succession and the incident of road rage is also shocking. All these accidents happen due to reckless driving and unless we have a corruption free system which makes handing out licenses very difficult, this is not going to change. You can indict a driver but then he will get bail and get back on the roads. So even our law need to change...

the problem you r facing is that you r not able to nab the erring bus operators (but u claim that u can nab the erring auto/ taxi/ truck operators)
and the solution u r proposing is ban the entire service... thats like burning the house so that u get rid of the termite problem.

i often have problems understanding ur logic....
the reason why everybody in small/big town needs to own a vehicle the day they start commuting is that there are not sufficient busses or public transport.... in bombay where this is not the case... the private vehicle ownership is proportionally less...
when u talk about public transport most people do not think if it costs then 5/- or 6/- to go to their destination... but how much time will it take... if the busses are not there or r not frequent... u happily pay 50/- in auto/petrol..
launching of a private bus service does not mean the government will stop plying its busses... infact private busses will only add to the frequency and enable more and more people to use the bus service... instead of auto.... remember a bus occupies less space than what 40 private vehicles would occupy...
about fares... go to calcutta.. the private bus operates are fares that r cheeper than chennai levels...

Since the bus drivers are into the state machinery, its difficult for police to control them!! the moment police goes against them in full force they go off the road and govt again backs off. it takes a more determined govt to control these drivers!!

The competition improves the situation a lot, just look at the telecom sector. Now even auto rikhsaw wala and vegetable vendors have got mobiles. I am talking about giving a chance to competition. I am sure it would improve the condition of buses with lower fares. For kids, parents anyway pay a very hefty sum .... again it would be cheaper with the increased competition.

all ur arguments are valid.. and they only strengthen my reasoning... that people need public transport... which ply to more destinations and at higher frequency.....
hence if private operators can pinch in and help the government... there will be more busses in the road.. and hence people will be happier.
